I can’t find where to login on your web site

The login box is accessed through the sliding panel in the top right corner. Some people have reported problems with the panel in IE8. Until this issue is resolved, you can login here.

I can’t enter my serial for the Rhino audioMIDI edition. I already have an account on the site, and when entering the serial it complains that my email is already in use

Just do this:

I am a long-time registered Rhino user, how do I transfer my registration on the new site ?

The first step is to create a new account. If your email hasn’t changed, your old credentials will be automatically transferred. If you email has changed, you can enter your old site code on your profile. If you have lost your site code, just contact me and I’ll see what I can do.

My key file doesn’t work any more with the 2.10 update

Please make sure you put the key file in the right location. The location has changed in 2.10 (blame Microsoft, not me !). The right location for the key file is now:

  • For Windows XP users, C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\Big Tick\Rhino
  • For Vista and Win7 users, C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\Big Tick\Rhino
  • For Mac users, ~/Library/Application Support/BigTick/Rhino

Please make sure the key file is not write-protected since Rhino requires write access to it. Also, please double-check that the key file is named ‘key.dat’.

There is no ~/Library/Application Support/BigTick/Rhino directory on OSX 10.7

Actually, there is – you just can’t see it :) Please follow these instructions to un-hide it.

There is no C:\Users\<username>\AppData\ directory on Vista or Win7

This folder is hidden by default in explorer. Please follow these instructions to un-hide it.

There is no C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\ directory on Windows XP

This folder is hidden by default in explorer. Please follow these instructions to un-hide it.

What is the difference between Rhino, RhinoCM, and Rhino audioMIDI edition ?

The audioMIDI edition is the same software than the regular Rhino. Moreover:

  • It includes both Mac and PC licenses
  • It comes with a new skin
  • It includes 3 additional preset banks, already integrated into the library.

Compared to RhinoCM, the regular Rhino offers 6 oscillators instead of 3, many more waveforms, filter types, effects and presets, a built-in step sequencer, and the ability to use your own samples.

I have purchased Rhino for PC, can I transfer my license to MAC ?

As Rhino is priced really low compared to the competition, we don’t offer this kind of crossgrade. You can, however, resell your PC license, and get a MAC one. Or get a second license, you automatically get 50% off !

I just purchased Rhino, now what do I do ?

If you didn’t have an account on the web site already, we have just created one for you. You should have received your login and password by email. Just login and you will be able to download your key file from your profile.

Does Rhino work on a Mac G4 ?

Rhino for MAC works on Intel processors only.

Does Rhino work on a Pentium 2 ?

Rhino requires a processor with SSE2 instructions.

When starting and closing Rhino I have an error message, “Error opening file tmp.sav”

In Windows versions after Vista, Microsoft (in a futile attempt to increase security), has disabled all write accesses to C:\Program Files. Unfortunately, Rhino was written for Windows XP, and installs by default under C:\Program Files\. The problem should go away if you install Rhino in a different directory (e.g, somewhere where it has write access, like C:\VstPlugins )

Can we have Rainbow for Mac ?

Unfortunately porting Rainbow to Mac would be a nightmare, since all of the user interface code is not cross-platform.

Can we have Angelina for Mac ?

Quite possibly at some point. A version of Angelina for Mac is currently being tested.

  • What users say

"This synth is at the VERY top of the best list! The only other comparable synths as far as expression and evolving with great quality are Native Instruments ABSynth and Camel Audio Cameleon 5000. But most people would want them all! Rhino is the best overall!" - John Foll, USA
